Nothing earth-shattering, just a few thoughts
So, I’ve seen numerous clips of people threatening to steal if they don’t get their SNAP benefits on time, and they dare anyone to try to stop them. One woman called on store employees to look the other way because, after all, employees will get paid anyway. Some stores are hiring additional security for the coming days.
We have a huge morality problem.
Traditional values are now mocked and disparaged.
The idea of an intact family, consisting of a male father and a female mother, where the two parents are committed to each other and are passing on their faith and values, has too often been replaced by thoughtless reproduction which puts women and children in vulnerable or dangerous situations. Women, thinking themselves to be independent, are willing to allow men to impregnate them without having any commitment from the father to support the resulting children. Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society agenda began supplanting the father’s role with the idea that the government would provide support.
When my husband and I married in 1971, at ages 20 and 19, he supported us and I remained at home. I got criticized for that, but this was our decision. My mother did not allow or encourage me to learn to do household tasks, so after marriage I spent my time learning how to cook, sew, garden, refinish furniture and keep house. (This sounds so old-fashioned, but I have been heartened to see young women once again valuing such things.) When finances seemed a little tight, I would sometimes ask my husband if he wanted me to find a job, but he always said no. When our children were in elementary school, we actually met the criteria for them to get free lunches, but we thought that idea was ridiculous. We didn’t have any problem affording to feed them and never considered depending on the government to do so. When our boys became teenagers, I taught myself word processing and worked part-time for several years. We have never lacked what we need, but have not always had what we wanted. My husband was always committed to budgeting and saving money, and now, in our retirement years, we are still financially stable.
It is astounding to me how many millions of people are now depending on the government. Jesus said that we will always have the poor with us, and I wholeheartedly support helping those who are in need in spite of their best efforts. I don’t want any child to go hungry, but I would be willing for some of the entitled adults I’ve seen to go hungry for a little while. Some of them would definitely benefit from losing some weight.
God has the best idea for families. I often heard Charlie Kirk tell young people to be committed, to get married and have children. Perhaps if we would teach our children to be responsible and committed to holy and righteous living, rather than indoctrinating them with critical race theory, gender ideology, and victimhood mentality, things would begin to change. In the meantime, I have no idea what to do about the situation in which we find ourselves, since half the country is fighting tooth and nail against change. I needed a few grocery items on November 1, when the benefits would run out, so I went shopping early in the morning, thinking anyone bent on trouble would still be sleeping.
It is very encouraging that large numbers of young men are returning to church. Bible sales have increased. We have no hope except revival.

My wife and I have always struggled to make our own way through this life. We have both worked extremely hard and have never taken a penny from any government program. The only help we have ever received was from my mother’s passing 35 years ago when I was 27 and we both are extremely thankful for her care and thoughtfulness for my 3 siblings and myself. Honestly I wish she were still alive, she was my best friend.
I believe what this government has done is purposeful. 1 in 10 Americans are on food stamps. In Massachusetts 1 in 7 are. Over 1/2 of the 8 billion SNAP dollars per month are given to illegal immigrants. This adds up to just under 100 billion dollars per year. The people that are refusing to sign the continuing resolution the CR, are the same people that helped to let 21 million people into America illegally. I find the republicans that sat back and didn’t impeach Biden over this as partly responsible as well. The democrats are setting up hunger and inevitably riots and I believe cities will burn.
This is a great biblical passage that fits into your essay.
2 Thessalonians 3:10
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: ‘If anyone is unwilling to work, let him not eat.’"
• The Apostle Paul wrote this to the church in Thessalonica, emphasizing that he and his fellow workers did not live off of others without working themselves, but instead labored to provide for themselves and avoid being a burden. He instructed the church to follow this example and not support those who were idly living off others.
Hear ya! The young people I know buy new and buy what they want when they want! Air conditioning? Sleep in the basement cause it’s a luxury. Buy secondhand but they refuse cause it’s “yucky”. Vacations? Seriously? Stop with the vacations and eating out! Cook your own food. Stop with the take out! Stop with the night life! Read how-to books from the library. They want everything now and refuse to live without!
