(I’m taking a quick break from cooking for the seven people in my house, five of whom aren’t usually here. Update: After three different quick breaks, I’m going with this version of my post, for better or for worse.)
“But many parents are attracted to homeschooling because they want to have more say in what their child learns and what they do not.” (Fancy that!)
The statement above is an actual quote from the article cited below, which has the innocuous title, Children Deserve Uniform Standards in Homeschooling. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/children-deserve-uniform-standards-in-homeschooling/
Basically, the article’s premise is that parents can’t be trusted to make the right decisions for their children. The article even advocates having parents undergo background checks so that they can teach their own children! As with every other area of our lives, the government wants to be in control.
The writers at Scientific American purport to be concerned about vast numbers of homeschooled children who might be abused. There is concern that Child Protective Services might not be aware and involved in protecting children. I do not want any child to be abused, but the fact is, a government agency is not equipped to best take care of our children and in today’s culture, the definition of abuse has been expanded to include refusal to affirm the LGBTQ agenda. Children have been removed from the custody of their parents because of their parents’ refusal to support their gender confusion, and this situation is only going to get worse.
In spite of all the problems, not all parents can or will make the decision to take their children out of the public school system. We need to continue to exert pressure on school administrators and attempt to make the system the best it can be for those children who will remain there. If you’ve been considering speaking to your local school board about pornographic books or other issues that concern you, check out Pastor John Amanchukwu’s website for help. https://iknowgod.us/ Amanchukwu is an activist who attends school board meetings and confronts school board members with the content of the vile books found in many school libraries. Amanchukwu was featured in Eric Metaxas’ documentary, Letter to the American Church and has a newly published book, Hoodwinked: 10 Lies Americans Believe and the Truth That Will Set Them Free. And how about this t-shirt that he designed? Doesn’t that slogan say it all?
My home state has a very good resource for homeschool parents; North Carolinians for Home Education. https://www.nche.com/ This association is led by a man whose nine children (yes, nine!) have been, or still are being successfully homeschooled.

Finally, a few months ago, I had a conversation with a local school board candidate. Her views obviously aligned with those in the Scientific American article. You can read about that conversation here. https://asclifton1971.substack.com/p/impromptu-interview-of-a-school-board
My daughter has made the decision to "Unschool" her kids. It is such a weight off her mind. God is good. She has looked into our state requirements and it is all going to work. When she made this decision, we both realized how much of our lives revolved around that government indoctrination center and it's schedule, et.al. Ridiculous and it is the status quo for as long as I have been alive. It is so freeing to not be at the mercy of the school and government.
